Road work starting Wed. Sept. 27

Posted on September 22, 2023 under: Announcements

🚧 Highway 899 Road Construction 🚧
From: Empress 3 Ave
Going South
To: Highway 41

Starting Wednesday, September 27, 2023

This stretch of highway is also considered Range Road 11 in the north, turning into Township Road 225 in the south, but it is easier just to call it Highway 899❗

The contractor advises that they are further delayed on their previous project and are now estimating a September 27 start date for the preparatory work here, with milling and paving starting approximately October 3. As noted previously, the detour will only be in place during milling and paving operations, which are anticipated to take 8 or 9 days, weather depending of course.

⌛ Given potential delays of up to half an hour, common sense advice is that all drivers avoid the construction area, except those who live along that section of road.

🚧 Use the detour instead, which is Highway 562 (aka Empress north access).

In the construction zone:
🕖 Work will happen from 7 am-7 pm
🚙 The road will be one-way traffic controlled by flag-persons 👷
⌛ Delays can be up to half an hour
🛣️ Construction project is projected to take up to 2 weeks
🚧 Please obey all construction zone signage

For more information on this project, please call 5-1-1 toll-free or visit

South Empress Access Road (Highway 899) Informational Bulletin

Posted on September 8, 2023 under: Announcements

In terms of schedule, it’s been pushed back again – preparatory work is anticipated to get going roughly September 20, with milling and paving approximately September 28.  The detour will only be in place during milling and paving operations, which are anticipated to take 8 or 9 days, weather depending of course.

Plus this as part of bulletin: A Detour route will be implemented via Hwy 562, as shown on the Informational Bulletin.  While the road is not being closed, it will be posted as “Local Traffic Only”, and it will be greatly appreciated if as many road users as possible can take the detour route.  We recognize it is an inconvenience, but it is relatively short term and will facilitate Border getting the work done as safely and efficiently as possible.  E.g. if there are no drivers waiting at the flaggers after a truck is loaded, the next one can get in there and the milling machine can keep going, rather than losing 10 minutes waiting for traffic to go through in each direction.
