There is a lot going on tonight.  Three Council meetings, starting at 6:30 pm, in the meeting room at the Village office.  In person only, not on Zoom.

6:30 pm – Special Council Meeting – To adopt the minutes from previous meetings.
6:40 pm – Organizational Council Meeting – Swearing in the new Councilors and getting them appointed to the various Commissions, Boards, and Committees.
7:30 pm – Regular Council Meeting.

NEW ICAO
Kindly be advised that Gary Peers of Acadia Valley has been appointed as the Interim CAO for the Village of Empress.  He brings municipal experience to the role, having been the CAO for the MD of Acadia Valley for many years.

WATER TECH
Empress has also recently hired a water technician who is fully qualified in all areas of managing the water for the village.  Our water is monitored daily and remains perfectly safe to drink from the tap.

WELCOME NEW COUNCILLORS
The swearing in of our new council will be at the Regular Council Meeting on Thursday 18 August 2022 at 6:30 pm in the Village Office Meeting Room.  This is a public meeting and all residents of Empress are welcome to attend. The agenda for this meeting will be posted shortly.

EV CHARGING PROGRAM
Empress was not chosen to participate in the 100% funding for municipalities for EV infrastructure.  Hopefully, this program may be offered again in the future for further consideration.

GRATITUDE
Our time with the Official Administrator is drawing to a close with the new council coming on board.  On behalf of the villagers, we wish to extend our profound gratitude to Harold Johnsrude for his guidance and leadership these past weeks.  As well, we want to acknowledge the assistance from Municipal Affairs, Special Areas and the various other organizations that supported the Village of Empress through this transition.

Thanks to all residents who exercised their civic duty to participate in our by-election last Monday.  We look forward to a productive 3 years with the new council, and a positive way forward for Empress after a challenging time.

Voting is taking place between the hours of 10:00 am and 8:00 pm, in the Curling Rink Lounge, which is in the northwest corner of the Empress Bindloss Agridome, 311 2 Street West.
