Open House

This is open to Empress and area residents. We will review the past year, and more importantly get your input on planning for the future. We encourage everyone to come out and have your say.
Christmas Light Up Campaign
Posted on November 8, 2016 under: AnnouncementsCouncil set December 1st for the annual Christmas light up campaign once again this year. They are encouraging residents to consider having their Christmas lights and decorations ready for this day as well. We will be having hot dogs, hot chocolate, marshmallows, hay rides and caroling. Everyone is invited to participate.

Empress Splash park
Posted on August 2, 2016 under: Council NewsWe are happy to announce our splash park is now open. Our first weekend was a huge success and by all reports the kids had lots of fun. We encourage you to bring your kids in and check it out. Come for the day or come for the weekend and stay in one of our RV parks. Rates have been lowered to $22.00 per day for fully serviced lots with water sewer and power, and the Splash park is FREE.
Summer 2016 Photo Contest Extended.
Posted on July 11, 2016 under: UncategorizedPlease note that we have extended the deadline for entries to the photo contest till July 20th in the hopes we can include some photos from the events happening in town over the next week. Remember we are looking for pictures of yards, scenery, landscapes and riverscapes, events – (example: canada day celebrations, sports days, brandings, camping trips), wildlife, people and places. Pretty much anything that shows off your pride in our community/region. The rules can be found on the previous post. Eligible entries are for Empress and area – Special Areas 2 & 3 and RM’s of Cheterfield and Deerforks.
Cemetery Spring Cleanup
Posted on June 13, 2016 under: Council NewsThe Village will be doing a cemetery cleanup on June 20th starting at 9:00 a.m. Your help would be greatly appreciated. The general public and family members are encouraged to come out and participate by cleaning up around your loved ones sites. Please bring weed eaters, lawn mowers, water and sunscreen.
New Photo Contest

***PHOTO CONTEST*** Win a free Samsung tablet or $250.00 cash! They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and the Village of Empress is looking for pictures that illustrate our beautiful region. Our fall contest was a great success and we are now looking to expand our library to include local events, places, gardens, yards, landscapes, skyscapes and flora and fauna.
We are looking for photos that depict what Empress and area means to you. Take us to your happy place, show us why you love where you live.
Photos must be in .jpeg or .tif format and preferably sized between 5 and 10MB – if you have a great picture that is smaller than 5mb please enter it.
To enter you must like our page and then enter your picture by sending your photos to cao@villageofempress.com
Files must be accompanied with the photographers name and contact info and any interesting details about the photo.
All submissions must be in by midnight July 4th. Photos will be placed on facebook in the album called 2016 spring/summer photo contest.
Voting will open July 5th and run for 2 weeks.
The photo with the most likes by noon July 19th will be declared the winner.
By sharing your picture, you agree to allow the Village of Empress and its affiliate organizations – PEP, Canadian Badlands, Return to Rural, Special Areas and Travel Special Areas the right to use them in our promotional materials, websites and facebook pages with you receiving photo credit.
Assessment & Tax Notices Mailed

Please be advised that pursuant to Section 308(4) of the Municipal Government Act, the assessment notice and tax notice relating to the same property have been combined on one notice.
In accordance with Section 311(1) of the Municipal Government Act, notice is hereby given that the 2016 General Assessment Notices for all assessed properties within the Village of Empress were mailed May 3, 2016.
Any assessed person or Taxpayer who may wish to lodge a complaint in writing, must do so on or before July 5, 2016, to the clerk of the Assessment review Board Village of Empress, Box 159 Empress, Ab. T0J 1E0.
All appellants are required to enclose a $50.00 fee per appeal, and if successful the fee will be returned. If you have any questions, please contact the Village office at (403) 565-3938.

An ideal candidate would possess strong skills in the following areas:
- Communication
- Multi Tasking
- Mechanical & Technical
- Public Service
- Recording and logging of data and maintenance plans
Preferences will be given to candidates that hold certificates in:
- Small System Water Treatment, Distribution and Wastewater Treatment and Collection (or willing to acquire)
- Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake’s “Q” endorsement or Class 1
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Equipment operating and maintenance (mowers/tractors/backhoe/3 ton/grader/bobcat)
- Safety Training Certificates (First Aid, WHIMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space, H2S)
This job entails working in environmental weather conditions, physical activity and problem solving. Maintenance and operations of water treatment plant, distribution system and wastewater facility are only part of your daily activities, additional activities in the common services area include grounds maintenance and beautification, street repairs and equipment maintenance.
