Special Meeting

Kindly be advised that there will be a Special Meeting by Zoom on Thursday 26 May 2022 at 11:00 a.m.

An Official Administrator has been assigned to the Village and will be dealing with signing authorities and setting the date for the next Regular Council meeting.

The date of the next Regular Meeting will be posted after the Special meeting and will be a public, evening, in-person meeting at the Community Hall so that everyone has an opportunity to ask questions of the Official Administrator about next steps.

Empress Village Council Resigned

Villagers:

Please be advised that the entirety of our Village Council has resigned as of 26 April 2022.

A letter requesting an Official Administrator has been sent to the Minister of Municipal Affairs. This person will act as a council in the interim, until we hold a new election.

The Interim CAO and administrative and public works staff will continue to do the work of the corporation as per the expectations of the municipality.

Further details will be made available as soon as they are known.

Village Office Closed

As per Alberta Health Services guidelines, the Empress Village Office is closed until May 3, 2022.

Friends of Empress:

Please be advised that the Village email account was hacked.  We found out on 2022-Apr-20 that something was amiss.  IF you receive an email that seems unusual or urges you to click on a link, please use caution.  It may be an attempt to gain your information or harm your computer.  Use common sense.  Call to verify if you need to.

We have done what we can on this end.  Hopefully this will be remedied now.

Upcoming Village Council Meetings

Monday, April 11, 2022 @ 5:00 pm: Special Council Meeting
This meeting will be closed to the public as per the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Regulation 18(1)d.  This meeting of council will discuss the hiring of a new Interim CAO.

Thursday, April 14, 2022 @ 7:30 pm: Regular Council Meeting
This will be a public meeting in the Village Office Meeting Room.  Zoom is still not available.  Due to the short notice, persons wishing to address council will need to wait until the May meeting.  Agenda will be posted on Tuesday 12 April 2022.

Empress Fire Advisory

A fire advisory will go into effect Monday, March 21, 2022, throughout the Village of Empress.

No Fireworks allowed.  The fire hazard rating has increased. Safe campfires are allowed in campgrounds and private fire pits, but may be restricted if conditions do not improve.  There must be a charged hose line nearby; within 2 meters, which could be used to put the fire out.  Gas or propane stove/barbeques and portable propane fire pits are allowed, providing they are on a non-combustible surface.

The public is asked to ensure all fires are attended and to be completely extinguished before leaving unattended.

Until we have a new CAO, there will be no Council Meetings.  We will let you know here when we have news.

Announcement by Mayor Jarvis

A special meeting will be held on Wednesday February 23 at 7:30 pm at the Empress Community Hall to discuss next steps for the village of Empress.  Everyone is welcome to attend in person.
